East Indian Rosewood is dark purple with streaks of red and black and lots of figure. It is from India or Java. East Indian Rosewood has narrowly interlocking grain, high strength, and is springy. The texture is coarse because of the large pores. It's stability is high. The outstanding figure, combined with the strength and springiness make it a delightful wood for shuttles. See Wood Terms for an explanation of terms.
